These hand crafted cymbals look as they sound – rich, dark, and complex. Reminiscent of cymbals from the 50s and 60s yet distinctly modern and relevant for today’s music, the cymbal line is named in honour of Kerope Zildjian, who presided over one of the most storied periods in Zildjian history. From until his death in in Constantinople, Kerope continued to develop the classic K Zildjian sound, coveted by the world’s greatest drummers. In memory of Kerope’s contribution to cymbal making and his deep commitment to craftsmanship, the Zildjian family is introducing a line of cymbals that includes 14″ and 15″ hats as well as 18″, 19″, 20″ and 22″ models. Exhaustive research into cymbals dating back to the s and s was critical in capturing the authentic look, feel and sound of K Zildjian cymbals, renowned for their rich, dark tones and crafted, old world appearance. Zildjian also sought input from top artists from around the world. The best of MusicRadar in your inbox Don’t miss the latest deals, news, reviews, features and tutorials No spam, we promise.
It has patina all over very thick. I looked closely and appeared to have small rusty dots too. I don’t mind a little patina, but this is rediculous. What can i do to clean it off? I’ve taken some of the “green” off with a common brass cleaner, but it’s still brown and rusty looking.
The finished cymbals are then wheeled to the legendary Zildjian cymbal vault to rest and age and await shipping. The vault is any drummer’s dream-come-true with literally tens of thousands of cymbals lining the aisles — shiny reminders of the Zildjian legacy.
Given the great success of the vintage-style Kerope line, which was launched at the Winter NAMM Show as a tribute to highly coveted Turkish-made K cymbals, it comes as no surprise that Zildjian would do a similar reworking of its seminal brighter-sounding A series. The Avedis hi-hats split the difference and come with a slightly heavier medium-weight bottom. All three sizes feature identical small, steep bells, and the bow curvature is significantly flatter than that of a New Beat or other contemporary designs.
They have a clean, high-pitched sound with a bit more emphasis on the lower-mid tones and slightly attenuated highs. They recorded very well, thanks to their softer overtones and shorter sustain helping to minimize bleed into the snare mics. They can rock, they can swing, and your soundman will love them. But I felt they sounded most at home when playing big, bombastic rock beats that required a more bellowing wash and a denser attack.
These oversized timekeepers turned out to be my favorite of the series.
Zildjian died of cancer Dec. Though Zildjian may not be a household word to most non-musicians, everyone with a radio or a CD player probably has heard a Zildjian cymbal thousands of times over the years. His ancestor Avedis, who was looking for a way to turn metal into gold, stumbled upon an alloy combining tin, copper and a little silver into a sheet of metal that could emit a crashing sound without cracking. Avedis was renamed Zildjian — zil is Turkish for cymbal, ji means maker and ian is the Armenian suffix for “son of” — and launched a business that harbored the secret formula passed on from oldest son to oldest son for about a dozen generations, including Armand’s father, Avedis Zildjian III.
I LOVE this cymbal cleaner!!! I have bought all used cymbals so far. And all Zildjian custom cymbals. A customs, avedis, k customs. I tried zildjian cymbal polish and I would use so much time and muscle just to get my cymbals to shine but I was never completely satisfied.

I definitely have a lot, a lot of songs together for another White Stripes album. I just don’t know when we’re gonna record it yet. I just have to take a break from the band for a second, because it’s just been consuming — all-consuming, you know?
I am able to give a wholehearted endorsement to the Zildjian ZBT 20″ crash/ride as an excellent student or amateur cymbal. It is percent good bang for the roughly bucks. The 8″, 10″, and 12″ splashes, both ZBT and ZHT, are worth a listen.

Every picture tells a story; the odd-sized sweet one will appear in part II of my in-depth review of the amazingly musical, thinner A Zildjian line circa I stopped buying A Zildjian cymbals decades ago. The noble, much-coveted cymbals of yesteryear have returned. To me, stability is often a higher virtue than spasmodic dopplering. Today I offer you a tease: Give me some time but allow one observation:

D I can’t tell it’s age but it’s in really great condition; there’s a little keyholing but this thing is so thick it’ll take a hell of a beating before cracking! I was hoping someone could tell me a bit more about the history of this cymbal as I haven’t heard anything about them before I bought one in Dec. Kind of the original really really dry ride. And that thing could cut through everything. Bo Eder , These cymbals were originally released in in 20″ and 22″ sizes.
It was a first for Zildjian – non-lathed, just this heavy chunk of metal – the precursor to the Z Series and what Paiste was thinking of when they introduced the RUDE line a little later, I think in ish. Definitely not for crashing and when I had one a 22″ players in jazz bands in my college asked me not to use it because the ping was too loud my technique back then sucked too.
When I look back on it, I’m not sure what I was thinking when I got one, but it was a cool cymbal for what it did.
Now Zildjian has spent two “intensive” years in the Sound Lab making subtle improvements. The S Family is extensive, with 38 cymbals available individually or in two boxed sets – a Performer and a Rock Cymbal set. For review we were sent the Performer set, comprising 14″ Mastersound hi-hats, 16″ and 18″ Medium-Thin crashes and 20″ Medium ride. We were also treated to a 10″ splash and 18″ Trash Crash, the latter with its 40 radiating spoke holes.
Build The S Family certainly looks the part with its snaking ‘S’ logo emblazoned over a gleamingly polished Brilliant finish.
Wow wow wow. Don’t think anything bad could be said about this ride. Have a growing collection of rides, dating back to a Classic A Ping from the 80’s, and although I had been quite enamored with my Sabian 21″ Raw Bell Dry Ride, I kept feeling that I hadn’t found the perfect ride yet, .. until NOW!!!!
